Is it safe to drive a recalled ID.4 or Q4 e-tron?

NHTSA has not issued a do-not-drive or park-outside advisory for 26V630 or 26V698. The automakers' interim advice is to keep charging at or below 80%. If your ID.4 is also in 25V836 or 26V028, follow that recall's stricter steps: park outside after charging and avoid DC fast charging.

When will there be a permanent fix?

No date yet. Neither VW nor Audi has filed a final remedy, and owners will get another letter when one is ready.

Does the recall cover the 2026 ID.4?

NHTSA lists the 2026 model year, but only vehicles built from January 1, 2023 through February 1, 2025 are covered. Check your VIN to be sure.

Will the 80% limit hurt my battery?

No. Keeping a lithium-ion battery below full charge for daily use is gentle on it. The cost is range, not battery health.

Can I still use DC fast chargers?

The 26V630 and 26V698 notices only set an 80% cap. The older 25V836 and 26V028 ID.4 recalls specifically say to avoid DC fast chargers until the repair is done. Check which recalls apply to your VIN.
