Is there still a federal EV tax credit in 2026?

No. The IRS says the new clean vehicle credit is not available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. Any discount you see now comes from the automaker, the dealer, your state or your utility.

Are EV discounts going away?

They're shrinking, but they're not gone. The October 2026 forecast puts the average EV incentive at $7,531, compared with $3,142 for gas and hybrid vehicles. The drop is largest against last October, when automakers spent heavily right after the credit ended.

Is now a good time to buy an EV?

It's a good time if you can charge at home and you pick a model with real incentives or slow sales. It's a worse time if you're financing a high price at today's rates on a hot-selling model. Do the math for your own situation before you decide.
