When does the VW / Škoda battery preconditioning update start?

Škoda says the first of two updates begins in calendar week 47 of 2026 (week of November 16), with the second in week 49, then more waves. ID.4/ID.5 timing for 3.9.1 should be similar but confirm in your market’s VW app / dealer notes.

Is this automatic preconditioning?

No. On these older cars the new feature is a manual “Start battery heating” control. Automatic nav-linked preconditioning stays on software 4+ cars and is not included in this retrofit.

Will my 2.x software ID.4 get it over the air?

Not directly. Škoda says 2.x vehicles need an authorized service visit. Expect the same practical advice for early ID.4s still on 2.x.

Does this fix the ID.4 battery recall / 80% charge limit?

How long does battery pre-heating take?

Škoda says about 30–40 minutes to reach the ~25°C / 77°F optimum after you press the button, and recommends activating roughly 45 minutes before you need to DC charge.
