Short answer: as of November 2026 there is no Arizona state rebate or tax credit for buying an EV, and the federal $7,500 credit ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. What's left: utility charger rebates (SRP: $250 on eligible Level 2 smart chargers), cheap overnight EV rate plans (APS R-EV, SRP time-of-use plans), and state perks — no emissions test, an AFV plate (carpool parking, HOV access — confirm with ADOT), and protected EV charging spaces.

Federal: the big credits are gone

The federal new clean vehicle credit (up to $7,500), the used EV credit and the commercial clean vehicle credit all ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025 (IRS). If a dealer advertises a "tax credit" today, ask exactly what it is — usually it's a manufacturer discount, not a government incentive. The federal home charger credit (30C) has also been wound down; check with a tax professional before counting on it.

Arizona state incentives (verified on AFDC)

The DOE's Alternative Fuels Data Center lists Arizona's current laws, last comprehensively reviewed in March 2026. For a private EV buyer, the ones that matter:

PerkWhat it doesCash value
Emissions test exemptionEVs registered in Arizona skip emissions testingSaves the test fee and the trip
AFV special plate + HOV accessEVs qualify for ADOT's AFV plate; dedicated AFVs may park in carpool-designated spaces (HOV-lane use: confirm with ADOT)Time, not cash
EV charging space protectionNon-EVs parked in EV charging spots face a civil penalty of at least $350Fewer ICE-d chargers
Reduced vehicle license tax (VLT)Expired for EVs bought on or after Dec 31, 2022$0 for new buyers

No state purchase rebate exists. Arizona dealers are required by state law to make information on AFV incentives available — if one quotes a "state EV rebate," ask for the program name and look it up.

Utility incentives: where the real money is

SRP (most of the East Valley and parts of Phoenix)

  • $250 Level 2 smart-charger rebate on eligible models (Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Emporia, GM PowerUP, Ford, Rivian, Autel and more). New chargers only, apply within 90 days, two chargers per account per five years; dealer-provided free chargers and portable cords don't qualify.
  • EV Smart Charge: $50 sign-up bill credit, eligible for a $50 annual credit (SRP).
  • Rate plans: the old SRP EV Price Plan is closed to new customers. New EV owners pick Conserve 6–9 p.m. and Save (super off-peak 8 a.m.–3 p.m.) or Manage Demand 5–10 p.m. and Save. Details in our APS & SRP charging guide.

APS (most of Phoenix, the West Valley and much of the state)

  • EV Overnight Charging 11pm–5am Weekdays (R-EV) — requires a qualifying EV and annual proof of ownership (APS).
  • Level 2 smart-charger rebate — APS has advertised $250 on Wi-Fi Level 2 chargers through APS Marketplace; the discount is shown after you enter your account number, so confirm the current amount there.
  • SmartCharge — $25 enrollment credit plus $5/month, but enrollment is currently full (waitlist).

TEP (Tucson), Mohave Electric, Liberty

AFDC lists EV time-of-use rates and/or Level 2 charger rebates for Tucson Electric Power, Mohave Electric Cooperative and Liberty Utilities. We haven't verified current dollar amounts — check each utility's site before you buy a charger.

What this means for your budget

Without a purchase rebate, the Arizona EV case rests on running cost: cheap overnight power and no oil changes. FAQ

Does Arizona have an EV tax credit or rebate in 2026?

No state purchase rebate or state income-tax credit for buying an EV is listed on the DOE AFDC Arizona page (last comprehensive review March 2026). The reduced EV vehicle license tax only applied to EVs bought by December 31, 2022.

Is the $7,500 federal EV credit still available in Arizona?

No. The federal new and used clean vehicle credits ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, nationwide.

What EV incentives can I actually get in Phoenix?

Mostly utility programs: SRP offers a $250 rebate on eligible Level 2 smart chargers and a $50 sign-up credit through EV Smart Charge; APS has an EV time-of-use plan and advertises a Level 2 smart-charger rebate through APS Marketplace. Plus perks: no emissions test and the AFV plate.

Can EVs use the HOV lane in Arizona?

Arizona issues a special alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) plate to EVs, and AFV-plated cars have long been allowed in Phoenix-area HOV lanes. The DOE AFDC summary explicitly confirms the carpool-parking perk; confirm current HOV-lane rules with ADOT before relying on them.

Bottom line

Don't buy an EV in Arizona for incentives — there are almost none at purchase. Buy one because overnight APS/SRP power makes it cheap to run, then grab the $250-class charger rebate and an EV-friendly rate plan. Next: read our Phoenix EV buying guide and the Arizona dealer reality check.
