What's the main difference between the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T?

Think of the F-150 Lightning as the electric version of the trusty truck many people already know and love. It's great for everyday jobs and has a familiar feel. The Rivian R1T is more like a high-tech adventure vehicle, built for exploring and offering some unique features for outdoor fun.

Which truck is better for towing and hauling stuff?

Both trucks can haul a good amount of weight. The Rivian R1T can tow a bit more, up to 11,000 pounds, while the F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds. For carrying weight in the truck bed (payload), the F-150 Lightning generally has a slight edge.

How far can each truck go on a single charge?

The F-150 Lightning can go up to about 320 miles with its bigger battery. The Rivian R1T can go even further, with some versions reaching up to 420 miles. Keep in mind that how far you can go depends on the battery size you choose and how you drive.

Which truck is faster?

The Rivian R1T is the speed demon here. Its top models can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 2.5 seconds, which is super fast! The F-150 Lightning is still quick, hitting 60 mph in around 4 seconds, which is impressive for a truck.

What kind of cool storage does the Rivian R1T have?

The Rivian R1T has some neat storage spots. It has a 'frunk' (front trunk) like the Lightning, but it also features a unique 'gear tunnel' that runs across the back of the cab, perfect for skis or other long items, and some storage under the truck bed floor.

Can these trucks power things outside of driving?

Yes! The Ford F-150 Lightning has a feature called Pro Power Onboard that lets you use its battery to power tools, camp lights, or even your house during a power outage. The Rivian R1T also offers power outlets, but the Lightning is generally seen as more capable for this.

Which truck is more affordable?

Generally, the Ford F-150 Lightning starts at a lower price than the Rivian R1T. While both have different trim levels and options that change the price, the Lightning often provides a more budget-friendly entry point into the electric truck world.

Which truck is better for off-roading?

While both trucks have all-wheel drive and can handle some rough terrain, the Rivian R1T is designed with adventure and off-roading more in mind. It often has more ground clearance and features that make it better suited for exploring trails.
