Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still get a federal EV tax credit?
No. The $7,500 federal EV tax credit expired September 30, 2025. The only remaining federal EV incentive is the 30C home charger credit -- 30% of installation cost up to $1,000 -- which expires June 30, 2026.
Which state has the best EV incentives in 2026?
Oregon and California lead. Oregon's Clean Vehicle Rebate offers up to $7,500 (effectively replacing the federal credit), and low-income Oregonians can stack the Charge Ahead rebate for up to $12,500 total. California's income-tiered programs reach $12,000 for qualifying buyers. New Jersey stands out for middle-income buyers: $4,000 CHARGE Up rebate plus full sales tax exemption.
Can I stack state incentives with manufacturer discounts?
Yes, in most cases. State rebates and tax credits are independent of manufacturer pricing. Many automakers launched $7,500-$10,000 dealer discount programs after the federal credit expired. Stacking a state rebate with a manufacturer discount can yield significant total savings even without the federal credit.
Do state incentives have income limits?
It varies. Some programs like California's CVRP and Maine's Driving Change Rebate are income-tiered. Others like New Jersey's CHARGE Up and Maryland's MEA rebate have no income limit. See each state's details above.
Are there any incentives for used EVs in 2026?
State incentives for used EVs are limited. A handful of states offer modest used EV rebates, but most programs focus on new vehicles. The $4,000 federal used EV credit expired with the new vehicle credit in September 2025.
Do assembly location requirements affect my state incentive?
Most state programs do not have the same North American assembly requirements the federal credit had. State programs typically only require the vehicle be titled and registered in-state. However, always verify eligibility with your state's program before purchase.
How often is this tracker updated?
This page is updated weekly as state programs change. State EV incentive programs can be modified, paused for funding, or expanded throughout the year. Last updated: April 15, 2026. Always verify current program status with your state's energy office before purchasing.
